The Declaration of forming in defense of Iraqi workers Committee

From its past to the resent time, Iraq as a country has gone through critical situations and the workers and the ordinary people are the main victims.  The former Baath regime and its leader Saddam Hussain who has ruled Iraq for three decades and half  involved Iraqi people with several wars. The invasion of Iraq by the US in March 2003 and the terrorist activities by extremist Islamic and nationalist groups are those last critical conflicts that have destroyed not only the economic base of the country, but also have abolished all the aspects of living in Iraq such as security and normal life. In addition, in contrary to what the US and its allies proclaim as a stable, democratic, and prosperous country, Iraq is still far away.

After removing the Baath regime from the power, the US’s administration toward Iraq has created more difficulties to Iraqi society by making Iraq a fail for its challenge against the former Baath members and the Islamic insurgent groups which have also made the working class and wage-earners steep in dire poverty and degradation and become the main casualties in the resent bloody conflict.  Moreover, in spite of passing the new constitution in which there is not too much to protect workers rights, there is still strong exploitation against the working people , the invasion has aggravated ethnic and religion cleansing, women worker are neglected from participating in the society and practice their rights, children are forced to work in order to feed their families, low wages, terrible working conditions, very high levels of unemployment, widespread robbery, the lack of water and electricity, the suppression of elementary rights are all behind the rise of the class struggle in Iraq and Iraqi working class never were consent to such a circumstance.

However, Iraqi working class can’t only depend on local support to persist its straggle to change the current circumstance; they need supports and contributions from the working class, unions, progressive and humanitarian organizations abroad. We as a group of Iraqi labor activists believe that the main responsibility for such demands is mainly depending upon us, therefore, we announce the formation of “In defense of Iraq workers committee and call all activists, labor unions and progressive organizations to support us.  The general activities of our attempt are the following points:

1-                              Challenging all the resolutions that listed in the new Iraqi constitution which has created a terrible condition and more crises for Iraqi working class.

2-                              Encouraging all the working class units to form their unions and mobilize themselves in all the stages.

3-                              Attempting to achieve a good relation with unions, working class organizations and all the progressive activists, and also reporting the working class conditions to the ILO , the trade unions in developed countries and all the progressive international organizations.

4-                              Introducing the critical Iraqi working class condition in abroad, and asking the Iraqis to be involved with the activities of the progressive organizations in those countries and at the same time asking those groups for supporting the Iraqi working class.

We “In Defense of Iraqi Workers Committee” would call on all the workers of Iraq, and in particular on the workers who are living in abroad our struggle is your struggle. Join us by working together to help our people in Iraq to achieve a better life from power all the imperialists, whether Republican and Democrat. Replace them with the power of our class. We would also appeal to all the workers and the activists within and outside of Iraq to join the struggle against the imperialists and all the local despotic authority that simply do nothing, but serve the capitalist masters.
